| Sensitivity to Glycolic Acid
Some people are more sensitive to AHA glycolic acid then others. People with a high sensitivity to AHA glycolic acid can use fewer products and will achieve the same benefits as their counterparts who are less sensitive and require additional products. Less than 1% of the population are allergic to AHA glycolic acid. |
| Start Slowly
Because it is impossible to predict how every individual will respond to AHA glycolic acid treatment, it is wise that they begin slowly and sensibly and increase product usage as the skin tolerates it. It may take a few weeks. |
| Red, irritated skin caused by the use of Intaglio skin care products
Soothing cream will reduce red irritated skin caused by the use of too much glycolic acid products. This condition may occur within the first few weeks of product use, when the user begins using too many products too quickly or when they apply products too thickly. If this condition occurs, discontinue product use and apply Soothing Cream tow or three times daily for one tow days. Begin using products again, but more slowly and more sparingly. |
| Long Term use of Moisturizers
The outer stratum corneum becomes thicker as we age. The cosmetics industry has taught us to moisturize thoroughly. These moisturize agents act much like glue and hold more and more dead cells to the skin's surface. Progressively it requires more and more moisture to keep this greatly thickened layer intact. AHA glycolic acid acts in the opposite direction to rid the skin of this heavy layer of dead cells. People who have continually moisturized and generated a thick stratum corneum are going to feel dry for the first several weeks and will feel the urge to add additional moisturizers. They should limit the amount of additional moisturizers they apply and allow this thick layer to slough off. On the future they will require less moisturizing. |
| Looking Worse?
As the thickened outer corneum begins to loosen and slough off during the first two or three weeks of glycolic use, the skin frequently will look drier, more wrinkled and cloudier that it had previously. This is normal and as these outer layers of cells slough off, the skin will begin looking better and continue to improve more and more. It is important that you understand this and do not discontinue use because you feel the products are not working correctly. · redness and irritated skin· a slight tingling may occur · roughness in skin texture · dryness or flaky skin · cloudy, wrinkled skin · impurities rise to the surface These conditions are both normal and temporary and will disappear in a few days. |
| Using too Much Product
Some people begin using too much product or too many products too quickly and their skin will become red and irritated. They should stop for a day and possibly apply Recovery Gel, Replenishing Toner, and Soothing Cream or 1% hydrocortisone cream. As you begin using products again you will need to progress more slowly. People who apply too much of the products may have a similar reaction or may find they have difficulty applying their makeup evenly. The Intaglio ® products are highly concentrated and should be applied thinly. |
